CHOCOLATE OATMEAL BARS RECIPE
2 cups quick cooking oats (180g)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (25g)
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup date paste (150g)
1/2 cup applesauce (120g)
1/4 cup melted butter (60g)
1 tsp vanilla extract
In a bowl, mix together quick cooking oats, cocoa powder and salt.
In a another bowl, add the sweet paste made of dates (or other dried fruits), applesauce, melted butter and vanilla extract. Whisk well to combine.
Pour the sweet mixture over oats and mix all the ingredients together, until it becomes sticky.
Line your 8 by 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Transfer the mixture to the pan and press it well into the bottom of the pan using a back of your spoon.
Place it in the fridge to chill for at least 2 hours, or overnight, to give oats time to soak up the moisture.
Using a sharp knife cut into 9 or 16 bars.
